ASUU speaks on calling off strike amid End SARS protest

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has reacted to claims that it has suspended it’s seven months old strike.

Dr Dele Ashiru, the Chairman of ASUU at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, said ASUU has not called off it’s strike.

Ashiru said only the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU can suspend or call off the strike which must be subjected to the congress.

Speaking with Tribune, Ashiru said ASUU president had no unilateral power to suspend or call off strike.

“So, ASUU is not Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) that goes to meetings and takes decisions that concern all members right at the venue of the meeting without tabling such before the NEC, let alone the congress, “ Ashiru.

Representatives of the Federal government had on Thursday met with ASUU over the protracted strike.

During the meeting it was agreed that the federal government would pay the sum of N30bn earned allowance to lecturers.
